Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning? According to the General Permitted Development Order 1995, specific planning advice is ALWAYS advisable as there are many occasions when planning may or may not be required. All cases are considered on an individual level and the area of planning control is extremely complex. Your individual circumstances can vary hugely, therefore we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you seek advice from an Independent Advisor.  They usually have a wealth of experience with various planning departments and may be able to assist you with obtaining planning permission, particularly where you already have temporary accommodation on your land.

A great place to start is the Planning Portal which features lots of helpful information.

Can I live in one? Modern static caravans are now well equipped with features such as double glazing and central heating, making them suitable for use all year round (subject to relevant planning consent- see above).  Caravans built to EN1647 are deemed suitable to use as temporary or seasonal accommodation on a holiday basis. Those built to BS3632 are designed to be lived in on a permanent basis.

Can I put it onto a holiday park? Some holiday parks allow customers to purchase a used caravan to go on to their site. However, there may be additional costs involved, such as delivery, siting, connection to services, commissioning of the caravan etc. Please speak to one of our Sales Advisors for more information.

Do you site and connect caravans? The transport companies that we work with offer a siting service. This will involve bringing a 4x4 vehicle to position and level the caravan. This service is an additional cost and is not included in our ‘Free Delivery within 100 Miles’. We do not offer a connection service but we may know of a local tradesman in your area who would be able to help. Should you require a Gas Safe Engineer to connect your caravan, please visit www.gassaferegister.co.uk.

Will you buy the caravan back if I no longer have use for it? Although we do not guarantee to buy back the caravans that we sell, we will offer a competitive price for the right caravan. Please call us on 01837 680100 with the details of the caravan or speak to your sales advisor.

Do you hire caravans? We do not offer a hiring service for our caravans.

How warm are caravans? If you plan to use your caravan during the colder months, we recommend you invest in one that features double glazing and central heating.

What type of base will I need in order to site my caravan? We recommend a level concrete base.

What does the heating run from? In a Static Caravan with central heating, the combi boiler will nearly always run off of LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas). In a small amount of cases the caravan may be set up to run off of natural gas. Most caravans will have a gas or electric fireplace in the lounge. In a caravan with no central heating, there may be Plinth or Panel heaters, both of which run off the electric supply. There will be a water heater to provide hot water to the taps and shower. Again, this will most likely run off LPG.

Do you deliver and how much will it cost? We deliver for FREE within 100 miles of the sales centre at which your Static Caravan is located. There is an additional cost if siting and/or craning is required and we can provide the details of local companies who may be able to help.

Will I get a static caravan onto my site? An Access Check will be carried out prior to delivery and advice will be available if further help is required with siting/craning.

What services will I need on my base? In order to fully enjoy your caravan, you will require: Bottled gas to run the water heater/boiler and the fireplace (for more information see “What does the heating run from”), Clean water supply, Electricity supply, Waste disposal solution (Septic Tank, Cesspit, Mains Waste).

How do I know where to lay the services? Following the purchase of a Static caravan, SBL Caravan Centre are able to provide a services plan to show approximately where the services are located.

How do I dispose of my old caravan? It is always worth giving us the details of your old caravan as we may accept it in part exchange.

Do you scrap caravans? We do not scrap caravans.

Do the caravans come with any warranty? All caravans over £2,950 are covered by our 3 month warranty (parts & labour), unless otherwise stated. For more details please see our Warranty page here: www.sblcaravancentre.co.uk/warranty.

I like one of your caravans, can I reserve it? We are able to take any caravan off sale with a deposit. See below for our accepted payment methods.

How can I pay for my caravan? We accept payment by Credit/Debit Card, Cheque, Cash (up to £8,000) and BACS.
